Our study of explorers began with a little lesson in geography. Using a world map and a few toys we discovered the world from the perspective of Europeans living in the 1400s. We discussed the "discovery" of North and South America, and how the European explorers named this place the "New World." In the coming weeks we will learn more about the explorers of the 1500s and 1600s. We will discover what their explorations meant for Europe, and also what it meant for the millions of Native Americans who were living in this supposed "New World." This group of fourth grade historians is certainly up for this journey into history!
